Underground Charm IV

An old gold mine in Złoty Stok, near Polish-Czech border. It was one of the oldest mines in Poland. At its peak an average amount of gold dug there was c. 60 kg. Seems small? Then mind that it was 8% of the whole gold mined in Europe.

Unfortunately for many years the owners cared more for the gold than the workers. During the most tragic incident a tunnel suddenly collapsed, killing c. 100 miners. When the owners announced that they aren't going to pay for body recovering, angered citizens of Złoty Stok forced them out of Poland.

Currently the mine doesn't dig gold (though some small amounts can still be found, and if tourist finds the gold, (s)he can keep 50% of his/her found) and is opened for tourists. There are two possible ways of visiting: normal, when you walk through the corridors, and "extreme", which also includes swimming in a small underground boat.

One of the attractions is an underground waterfall, which originates somewhere above the mountain and flows inside through the holes in the ground. Now it may not look impressive, but after heavy rains in happens to flood the room it is in.
