"Kubuś" (diminutive from "Jakub" - Jacob. English counterpart would be "Jack") is an improvised armoured car, build by Warsaw insurgents in just 13 days. On the chassis of Chevrolet 157 they placed a metal frame, then two layers of 5-6 mm steel plates. It was named after deceased wife of Józef Fernik "Globus" (Kubuś was her war nickname), who was coordinating the build of Kubuś. After many problems, like lack of proper materials or welding equipment, the armoured vehicle was prepared. It took part in two attacks on Warsaw University, turned into garrisone by Germans. During the second attack poor Kubuś was damaged (destroyed tyres) and abandoned in the garden in Okólnik. During summer 1945 someone found it and somehow the vehicle wasn't destroyed by communists, who were destroying every trail of Warsaw Uprising (because insurgents fought to drive Germans off Warsaw and not let Red Army take over the capitol of Poland). It is in perfect condition and now you can see it in Polish Army Museum (if you're lucky one, you may even have a chance to ride it).

Kubuś was equipped with DP machine gun, flamethrower and crew's weapons, like grenades or pistols.

Kubuś was one of at least three other vehicles which were used by insurgents (they might have been more), two others were captured: Sd. Kfz. 251 Ausf. D haltrack, renamed "Szary Wilk" (The Gray Wolf) and Jagdpanzer Hetzer, renamed "Chwat" (The Courageous One), altough "Chwat" was immobilized and used only as a part of barricade. I do not count the Borgward demolition vehicle as it was destroyed shortly after capturing.

EDIT: OK, so there were five of these. Insurgents also captured two Panther tanks, one renamed "Magda" and one unnamed. After they run out of ammo and fuel, they were set on fire and destroyed.
