Description
Px48 narrow gauge steam locomotive standing in front of Zbiersk station, awaiting restoration.
Px48 was based on an earlier Px29 locomotive, and it had a gauge of 750 mm (17 of them were later broadened to 1000 mm). With 4 t of coal and 6 m³ of water in its tender, it could haul a 300 t load to a distance of 65 km (few narrow-gauge railways in Poland are longer than that, so the range was adequate).
The one from Zbiersk was used on Kalisz Narrow-gauge Railway since 1950, primarily to haul passenger trains from Turek to Kalisz and back, and carrying sugar beets from the fields to Zbiersk sugar refinery.
