History Aiming to be the most mobile army in Europe, Nazi Germany needed a lot of vehicles to carry troops and goods. One of them was L2H143, nicknamed "Krupp Protze" by the soldiers. It was a light six-wheeled truck and artillery tractor designed and produced by Krupp Co. Powered by 60 HP petrol engine it could carry a driver, 7 soldiers and tow one gun. It's primary purpose was towing light anti-tank guns such as 37 mm Pak-36. There were also several specialised versions, like telecom truck (mobile telephone station or radio mast), power generator or anti-aircraft SPGs. At the end of the war there were two armoured personel carriers based on Krupp Protze's chassis: Sd.Kfz. 247 and Krupp gepanzerte Radfahrzeug (Krupp's Armoured Vehicle).
Kit OK, I know the description isn't too long But I can't find any extraordinary histories concerning the Krupp Protze truck, so I can only provide a bit of data.
This is Revell's repack of Matchbox's kit, just like most (if not all) of Revell's 1/76 models. There are two variants of these sets: of Revell's productionand originals which weren't sold by Matchbox. This one seems to be the latter, because: 1. the sprue has an inscription "Made in England" with the last word poorly covered with plastic and 2. the details are rather poor compared to other sets, i.e. M16 Halftrack or Sd. Kfz. 251. Nevertheless you have quite a lot of elements, which create three basic parts of the truck: the bed, the driver's cabin and chassis with wheels. The wheels do not turn, I had to glue them to the place. The canvas which covers the bed squeezes to the place rather nicely, but I don't know if it's because the parts are not entirely fitting to each other or maybe it was ment to be so. Anyway, you can take it off to show the truck's interior, but it's not very detailed, so my canvas is usually covering it all the time.
The kit also consists of PaK-36 gun, but it's so poorly made I didn't incorporate it into the final kit.
Painted entirely with Humbrol, with the exception of tires, which were painted with Pactra black; I also used it to simulate mud & dust.
Model: Matchbox/Revell Paints: Humbrol with some Pactra for details Scale: 1/76
Maybe, but it was a little nightmare to fit all the parts that make the bed and those that make the cab. And the chassis is a bit off axis. I must also do something with that gap between the hood and the cab, because only when I took the photo I've noticed it's so ugly looking
