A heavy self-propelled gun based on IS-2 tank chassis. A successor to very similar SU-152 gun. Fired various shells weighing from 40 to 56 kilograms, able to crack open even the most heavily armoured German tanks. Nicknamed "Zveroboy" (The Beast Killer), because its most frequent opponents (aside from strongholds) were named after wild animals (Tiger, Panther, Elefant etc.)

Talking of the ISU-152, could the 152mm gun be replaced by an 88 KwK 43 gun instead?
Reply
:iconwormwoodthestar:
I don't think so, it wouldn't fit in the gun's mantlet.

But do you think 88 KwK 43 can also fit in IS-2/3?
Reply

Same as above, mauntlet would be too wide. It'd take a crapload of engineering to fit it inside.

will it have the same problems if 88 KwK 36 was used instead?(both ISU-152 and IS-2)

To ask, was the 152mm shell was 2-piece ammunition, or was it already one piece ammunition (shell+projectile)?
Reply
:iconwormwoodthestar:
It was a two-piece ammunition, just like in IS-2 tank, and it greatly hampered the loading process.
