Description
IS-2 heavy tank, the only tank of this type in running order in Poland and one of about 4 to 6 in the world, during historical reenactement in Poznan.
Well, not the best of my photos, I tried to improve the quality, but I was standing too far away and the tank did not roll closer to us, and after the reenactement there was too many people to take a good picture There are some better photos from other events in my gallery... oh, and the milk churn was still on the turret
After the reenactement, the IS-2 took part in an unusual and unexpected operation. It was brought to the battlefield on a special Iveco tank transporter. When said transporter rolled off the road into the pitch where the reenactement took place, it became stuck in the mud (it's quite warm here in Poland now, and it resembles Russian thawing season on a smaller scale). Attempts to pull it out under its own power and with another transporter that brought Katyusha to the reenactement both failed. What did the Armoured Warfare Museum's staff did? Why, they used IS-2 as recovery vehicle The tank pulled the Iveco transporter out of its trouble, its powerful 600 hp engine having no trouble at all to move the machine. Few photos from the "operation" can be seen here.
