The liberation of Kalisz lasted just one day, January 23rd 1945, but the fights for the city's outskirts were fierce. In the end 309 Soviet soldiers were killed - they were buried in the forementioned park. German losses are hard to estimate, but certainly they've lost one Messerschmitt Bf 109 which crashed after colliding with Town Hall's tower, though whether this happened during or before the battle is not known. The pilot did not survive the crash, the whereabouts of his body are unknown too.
